Bergamot

bergamot skincare lotion moisturizer essence toner

Bergamot is a citrus fruit with components that are commonly used in skincare formulations due to its many benefits. These benefits includes anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects.

Natural Science

Bergamot is rich in antioxidants that help protect the skin from harmful environmental stressors and prevent signs of aging. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it effective in calming and soothing irritated skin.

The three major compounds that are found in bergamot which contribute to its awesome skincare benefits include:

  • Limonene: natural compound that has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to protect the skin from free radicals and reduce inflammation.
  • Linalool: natural compound with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps to limit harmful bacteria on the skin and reduce redness and swelling.
  • Vitamin C: powerful antioxidant that helps to protect the skin from free radicals, improve collagen production, and brighten the skin.
  • Benefits

One of the primary benefits of incorporating bergamot in skincare formulations is its antioxidant properties. This helps to protect the skin from damaging effects of free radicals that can be produced from environmental stressors such as pollution, UV radiation, and smoking. All this can contribute to the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging. By helping to neutralizing free radicals, antioxidants help to prevent this damage and maintain the skin's youthful appearance.

Bergamot also has anti-inflammation benefits on the skin. Inflammation can be caused by acne, eczema, and other skin conditions. It is characterized by redness, swelling, and discomfort, and can be damaging to the skin if left unchecked. The anti-inflammatory compounds found in bergamot can help to calm and soothe irritated skin, reducing redness and swelling.

In addition to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, bergamot also has antibacterial properties. Harmful bacteria can thrive on the skin and contribute to the development of acne and other skin conditions. By limiting harmful bacteria on the skin, bergamot can help prevent the development of these skin issues and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

    How Its Used

To impart the benefits of bergamot we have incorporated it in a number of our formulations. You can find bergamot in Amaretto and Biotic Hand Remedy and The Biotic Glow™ Ferment Essence to name a few of our favorites.

    Research

Studies conducted on the effectiveness of incorporating bergamot in skincare formulations have demonstrated its positive impact on the skin. These studies have shown that formulations containing bergamot essential oil significantly reduced sebum production and improved the appearance of acne-prone skin. By reducing oil production, bergamot helps to prevent acne breakouts and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

Other studies have found that bergamot essential oil improved the elasticity and hydration of the skin, an important anti-aging factor when it comes to the appearance of the skin--helping to keep the skin looking firm, youthful, moisturized and healthy.
